Why DustDog.Org

When I decided to move my woodworking shop from the garage into a large, unfinished basement, I knew it was time to finally invest in proper dust collection. I’d always prioritized new tools over dust safety, but bringing the shop inside the house meant dust would affect others too — not just me.

After a lot of research, it became clear I couldn’t afford the system I really wanted — the one I felt was best: Nordfab.

Like many woodworkers, I turned to PVC pipe and fittings. They’re inexpensive and easy to find, but there’s a catch — they’re designed for plumbing, not dust collection. That creates real problems when dealing with the airflow demands; and figuring out how to get it all connected together was NUTS!

What’s wrong with PVC fittings?

Tight Turns Kill Suction

Plumbing fittings are designed for pressurized water, not airflow. Sharp 90° elbows restrict suction and increase the risk of clogs.

Hidden Landmines

Not understanding PVC pipe standards can cost you time, money, and frustration.

For example, you might start with 6" sewer & drain pipe for your main trunk and 4" lines to your table saw — all seems well. But then you go to add a 3" drop to your bandsaw and head to Home Depot... only to find they don’t carry 3" sewer & drain pipe. You remember seeing it in the SDR35 standard when planning — but it turns out plumbers rarely need that size, so local suppliers often don’t stock it.

Males vs Females

Plumbing systems are designed to be installed once and left alone, using permanent male/female couplers. But woodworking shops evolve: tools are replaced, layouts improve, and dust collection needs change. With PVC, you can’t just remove one fitting — you have to disassemble everything downstream to get to it.

Permanent Connections

PVC is made to be glued. Once you’ve assembled a system, it’s locked together. Want to make changes? Get out the saw.

“Wye Not?” — The Origin of DustDog - Expense

If you’ve ever priced PVC fittings for dust collection, you’ve probably hit the same wall I did: everything affordable is 4”. But what if your system needs a 5” or 6” main trunk?

That was the spark behind DustDog.

When I laid out my dust collection system, I sized each tool and quickly realized I needed a 6” main trunk to maintain proper airflow. That’s when reality hit: a 6x6x3 PVC wye was $85 — while a 4x4x3 wye cost less than $20. I needed more than a dozen 6x6x3 and 6x6x4 fittings. That’s over $700… just for wyes.

That’s when I said: “Wye Not?”

Why not design a system that delivers performance like Nordfab — but at a price real woodworkers can afford?

DustDog was born from that question. Designed with modular flanges, quick clamps, and open standards, it’s a system made for shops like yours — flexible, affordable, and built for dust collection, not plumbing.

DustDog fittings are designed for the job

DustDog was built from the ground up for woodworkers. Our system is based on a universal flange standard and quick clamps, making it:

Flow

Wide sweeping turns. Just look at that beautiful elbow!

Reconfiguration is in our DNA

Disconnect a fitting with a flick of the clamp — no glue, no fuss.

Air tight by design

Our TPU flanges (free to print or order) create a sealed connection every time. No tape, no silicone means no mess.

Pipe Agnostic

Because everything has a common flange and we provide flanges for most suitable pipe, you can use what you have and / or want based on your requirements. You can even mix and match pipe types! Yes, I’m not kidding,

  • PVC Sewer & Drain (SDR35) - Cheapest, lightest (highly recommended)

  • PVC pipe (SCH40) - Heavier and more expensive than SDR35 but more choices

  • Spiral metal duck - a great solution if you can afford it (Coming Soon)

  • Snap-Lock duct - available everywhere, cheap, can be noisy (Coming)

Open Source Standard

We publish our flange specs so anyone can build compatible parts. You’re not locked into a single vendor.

On top of that if you have a great design and it fits in with the standard we’ll help you bring it to market either by promoting it from within our catalog or we’ll even print and fulfill it. (Watch for partner program coming soon)
